about us

Our History

In 2001 my husband and I moved our young family to Lincoln. Immediately we fell in love with this small town which was very much like the town we both grew up in, and we were so excited to raise our children in a small community.  One of the first things we needed to do was to find a preschool for our daughter.   I couldn’t find a preschool in our town that was anything like the schools that I had worked in for the past 16 years.  So, after enrolling her in a program, directing there myself, and leaving to work in another program when she began kindergarten, I decided that our town needed a quality preschool that was focused on preparing our local children for kindergarten.   After searching commercial buildings and residential areas, the perfect location for the Little School House was finally found in October of 2003.

After eight months of hard work, sweat, and at times, tears, the Little School House opened in June of 2004.  There were 7 children in attendance the first day.  When our official school year began in August we had 35.  The following school year we grew to 54, and since the third school year we have been at capacity with 100 students each year.

Opening this school has been a blessing each and every day.  Not a day has gone by that I don’t walk through the door without being thankful for the opportunity we’ve been given to serve our community and the families living here!  It is for this reason that I try to teach everyone who also walks through our doors how important it is to embrace our community, as well as our school family.

The Little School House proudly participates in Relay for Life (a 24 hour walk for the American Cancer Society), we adopt teenagers and families each year at Christmas through the Lighthouse Counseling & Family Resource Center, we’ve provided food to families in need at Thanksgiving, and collect aluminum pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald Charity House.   Our students always look forward to participating in the city of Lincoln annual Christmas parade. We have also worked hard to build a positive relationship with our school district.  We are proud to be a part of the Lincoln community, and we thank our community for wrapping it’s arms around our school!

After 14 years in Lincoln, the Little School House continues to grow, and is always striving to provide the best quality preschool education for each and every child in our program!  We have an amazing staff of teachers who are dedicated to making early childhood education an imperative stepping stone in the development of all of our students.  We have been voted the Lincoln News Messenger “Best of the Best” preschool 6 times, including this past year.  And we hope to continue to be the “Best Preschool” in years to come.
